ZINGA on Tanks, Containers & Silos
Containers, tanks and silos are used around the world to store a wide array of materials. The containers protect the stored materials from the environment, but the containers should also be protected from the effects of the mostly harsh weather conditions they are in. Leaking storage tanks, whether above or below ground, can pollute the environment, threaten public health, and lead to billions of dollars in direct and indirect costs.
Containers are exposed to various corrosive elements such as airborne salt and industrial pollutants, rain and saltwater. Transport damage during loading onto and unloading off trucks, train beds and ships breaches the paint coating, which contributes further to corrosion. The result is shortened container life and high costs for container repair or replacement.
The main reason for storage tank failure is corrosion. Fortunately, corrosion prevention technology exists, which can protect storage tanks and keep them structurally sound for years to come. ZINGA offers a sustainable long-lasting protection to containers, tanks and silos by creating an active, galvanic protection to the underlying steel.
The following case studies show examples of how Zinga has been used to protect these structures across the globe.

Potable Water Tanks, Braithwaite
Summary
The inside of 9 potable water storage tanks in the town of Braithwaite were protected with ZINGA, many of which were bigger than houses.
For new tanks, the surface was blasted to SA 2,5 and Rz65 µm, after which ZINGA was applied by airless spray. On old tanks, the existing zinc was given a sweep blast at 50 psi using 45°nozzle angle before ZINGA was applied by short-fibre rollers and brushes for inside corners and flanges.
After application the Zinganised walls were sprayed with fresh water to harden the ZINGA and avoid any risk on zinc taste or zinc deposits in the potable water.

Crude Oil Storage Tank
Summary
ZINGA was selected to protect ExxonMobil’s floating crude-oil storage tank at one of their biggest UK refineries near Southampton in 2007. Both the application team and client preferred working with ZINGA after having used epoxies for years prior as it meant that they didn’t have to worry about dragging blast-hoses across semi-cured coatings or applying an epoxy in the morning and letting it cure for a few hours and then continuing to blast (with grit flying everywhere).
Rather, the team could walk on the ZINGA after only one hour, dragging their hoses etc. and blasting adjacent and start blasting next to where the first-stage ZINGA layer stops, with no adverse effects.
10 years later, an inspection of ZINGA’s performance on the tank was conducted, during which it was determined that the coating would be suitable to last until at least 2022, if not until 2027. The only rust staining visible is run off from items and areas that were not protected with ZINGA. These pictures were taken when the tank was full.

Cold Water Piping
Summary
In 2017 the AUDI-VW Car Company decided to repair their cold water piping located in their Belgian assembling unit, using ZINGA as stand-alone system. Prior to their refurbishment, the pipes were badly corroded and thick with rust.
Two coats of ZINGA were applied to 60µm DFT.
